There will be no return to Twickenham this year for Drybrook following this narrow defeat at Wells.
The game finally got underway after two postponements due to the weather but was moved to a nearby field, totally lacking any facilities. It was, however, a bright sunny afternoon and Drybrook had first use of the slope.
Five minutes into the game, Wells were awarded a penalty which was converted, giving the home side a 3 – 0 lead.
Following this Drybrook kept constant pressure on the Wells line even when reduced to 14 men after flanker Lee Ward was yellow carded.
Drybrook came close to scoring when forwards and backs combined to give good ball to left wing Simon Rugman who, following a surging run, was tackled into touch 5 metres out.
Drybrook continued to dominate and scored what appeared to be a great try, inexplicably overruled by the referee.
Despite a wealth of possession and territorial advantage Drybrook could not break through and the first half ended with Wells clinging to their slender lead.

The second half was a scrappy affair but, Wells had a slight edge going down the slope. Twenty minutes into the half, Drybrook were awarded a penalty virtually in front of the posts. The normally reliable Clements hit the post with the kick and the chance was lost.
Ten minutes later, Wells forwards rampaged down the field and released their backs for a fine try in the corner taking the score to 8-0.
It just wasn’t Drybrook’s day, another penalty kick was missed in the dying minutes of the game as they slipped to a disappointing defeat.
