This was a great effort from the team and all eighteen players deserve huge credit.
Weston-Super-Mare 10pts
Drybrook R.F.C 16pts
On a cold blustery afternoon at the coast Drybrook upset the form book to beat a Weston team who are placed fourth in the league. The visitors all but dominated the game in the first half and took a healthy sixteen-point cushion into the break.
The game started with a long kick from Ben Large which immediately had the home team under pressure.
A certain try looked to be on the cards until the Weston number seven jumped over the top to kill the ball on his own line. He received a yellow card for his misdemeanour but the home team held out to keep the scores level.
Drybrook were playing all the rugby but the home teams scrummage, was as always, very strong and this enabled them to clear their lines on more than one occasion.
Drybrook should have taken the lead on twenty minutes when a fine break by Kyle Frowen took him all the way to the last defender, he passed inside to Corado Colombo but the usually dependable Italian spilled the ball with the line at his mercy.
Not to be outdone though Drybrook applied more pressure and were rewarded with two Tom Treherne penalties.
.
Ollie Moore then made a fine dart down the wing and gathered his chip ahead, before feeding to who else but the Italian Stallion, who made no mistake this time crossing for a five-pointer. Treherne added the extras and the visitors led by Thirteen points to nil.
There was still time in the half for Treherne to add another three points to give the Green Army a good lead at half time.
The second half started badly for the visitors as they were pinned on their own line following a number of scrummages that was proving to be the host’s most potent weapon.
Eventually Drybrook lost prop Harry Daynes to the bin and the Weston team were awarded a penalty try to bring the score to sixteen points to seven.
The game continued with Drybrook looking to use pace and throw the ball around while the home team seemed content to let their forwards try and batter their way up-field.
Will Greenway was now on the pitch and his added power in the scrum helped the Drybrook team in that department allowing better ball for the backs to attack.
Ben Large looked dangerous on the ball and with Danny Price commanding the defence it seemed
that Drybrook were well in control of the game.
On thirty minutes though they were penalised for what looked to be a perfect strip of the ball by Frowen on his opposite number.
The kick was successful and suddenly the game was back on a knife edge with the home team needing just a converted try to steal the victory.
Drybrook, however, were in no mood to let this one slip and controlled the remainder of the game to run out worthy winners.
This was a great effort from the team and all eighteen players deserve huge credit for the way they bounced back after the disappointing result against Camborne.
Ben Large and Joe Tingle both had good games and with the likes of Mitch Bourne and Glen Nott as abrasive as ever and Mikey Addis playing well, another upset could well be on the cards as the fun bus travels to Exeter University this Saturday.
