Drybrook Extras 17pts

Drybrook 3’s made the short trip to Cinderford, to take on their closest rivals at Dockham Road.
It was a pleasure to see three players in the starting lineup making the step up from the junior section to senior rugby, and what a fixture to make that step.
With visibility poor due to the descending fog, both teams took the pitch with a mixture of young exuberance and wise older heads scattered across the park.
It was Drybrook who got the game under way, and immediately young debutant Callum Coe put Cinderford under pressure with a great kick chase into the home sides 22. Unfortunately the young squirrel was adjudged to have knocked on.
With the biggest front row assembled in green shirts for some time, Drybrook took the ball against the head and went on the offensive through Fraser Wilkes.
The green army applied the pressure with big carries from ash Nelmes and mark castree, and quick ball from scrum half Kieran Aucker-Howlett enabled captain Ben (the Tank) Casey to barge his way over in the corner for the first score of the game.
Jay knight added the extras with a great kick from the touchline.
From the restart the Drybrook pack began to assert their dominance and somewhat bullied the opposition pack. Credit to the young Cinderford side who defended resiliently and spreading the ball wide went on the attack through their rapid backline.
Drybrook defended well and after good work at the break down were awarded a penalty.
A kick to touch 10 yards from the Cinderford try line and a well worked line out move allowed captain Casey to crash over the white wash for his and the men in green’s second.
With the half drawing to a close, Drybrook were forced into 2 quick substitutions after injuries to

First senior game:
Callum Coe, Charlie Rushworth and Jez Jones

full back Colin morgan and scrum half Kieran Auker-Howlett.
Another debutant Charlie Rushworth who started the game at fly half moved to 9 and Callum Coe moved into his preferred position at full back.
The half closed with the score Cinderford 0 – 12 Drybrook.
Cinderford started the 2nd half the stronger trying to get a foot hold back in the game and after a period of ill discipline from the visitors narrowed the deficit with a penalty from in front of the posts.
Drybrook tried to hit back as Rushworth orchestrated his forwards carrying hard into the cindy defence with Nelmes, Wilkes and Young Jez Jones all making an impact.
The ball was spread wide through the backs but no one picked up the on rushing Cinderford defender who intercepted and went on the break.
With a penalty advantage the Cinderford fly half put a kick in behind to see his winger gather the
.

ball unopposed and run in under the posts.
Somehow the kick was missed leaving drybrook with a slim 4 pt advantage. Rushworth took the kick off and again the drybrook pack asserted their authority, the Cinderford try seemingly giving them a wake up call.
Phase after phase went through the forwards before the ball was shipped out to knight who put a kick over the top of the Cinderford back line.
The full back knocked on giving Drybrook a scrum just outside the home sides 22, by the time the 2 front rows had stopped cuddling, the ever impressive Wilkes had already charged through 2 defenders carrying a 3rd with him over the line for a tremendous individual try.
The extras couldn’t be added but a 2 score cushion was back in place.
This was needed as with the final play of the game a superb back line move saw the home side go over for their 2nd try.
The refs whistle went and with that, the 3rds secured the double over their close neighbours.
Those who made the effort to watch the game, commented on the standard played by both sides, and had been treated to an entertaining game of rugby.
More importantly it was great to see 3 lads come into senior rugby and play the way that they did; outstanding performances by each one of them. The future is bright!
