Unbeaten record still intact!

Drybrook United’s forward power proved to be the deciding factor in this local derby.

Drybrook utd 22pts
Lydney utd 7pts

Drybrook United entertained Lydney United on a cold Saturday afternoon at the Mannings.
Following the narrow win over Lydney earlier in the season Drybrook knew that they would need to be at their best to record a victory
Drybrook got off to the worst possible start, after receiving the kick off playing up the slope, the ball was kicked long, Lydney fielded the kick and attacked out wide, a mix up in defence saw Lydney score with only 1 minute on the clock.
Following this set back Drybrook took the game to Lydney and after setting up good territory a series of pick and goes saw Joe James squeeze over for a try.
For the next period of the game Drybrook held the upper hand, with the pack doing well at scrum and line out time.
Next to score for Drybrook was Connor Hale. A penalty kick to the corner set up good field position for the line out and the maul got set

.
early. But Hale caught the defence unawares breaking free from the back off the mail to score. The conversion was missed as it seemed Andy Milner had left his kicking boots at home.
This brought up half time with Drybrook holding a slender 10-7 advantage.
Drybrook now had the slope to their advantage and increased their lead 10 minutes into the second half. Following sustained pressure in the Lydney 22, scrum half Tom Treherne burrowed his way over to score. Milner added the extras.
Soon after the score centre Adam Swordy was sin binned for not respecting the core values of the game. The one man advantage gave Lydney a sense of urgency and they enjoyed their best phase of the match putting the 14 men of Drybrook under the cosh. As Lydney looked to move the ball wide and create an overlap a knock on occurred giving Drybrook a chance to relieve the pressure.
On two occasions Drybrook thought they had increased the lead, both Ashley Nelmes returning from a long injury lay off and Joe James managing to get over the try line but the referee didn’t award them.
In the closing moments of the game Joe James managed to get his second score of the game following another impressive maul.
Drybrook maintained their 100% league record, on the day the team were well served by the efforts of the forward pack that laid the foundations for the win, with debutant Cam Cobbett making an excellent impression on the Drybrook supporters.
