A hard road ahead!

A big Weston unit proved to be to strong for the home team to overturn.

Drybrook R.F.C 8pts
Weston super Mare 14pts

On a dark and dismal day in the Forest, a big Weston unit proved to be to strong for the home team to overturn, despite a brave and spirited performance.
Weston had all the early pressure and took the lead when they scored a push-over try with number eight Brad Talbot touching down. Dan Lomax the visiting fly half converted and Weston took an early seven – nil lead.
Drybrook came back into the game and mounted a series of attacks, but the Weston defence was solid and although the home team kept knocking at the door no-one was prepared to let them in.
Drybrook then lost big second row Will Greenway with an ankle injury and brought on Joe Tingle. The lighter scrum was struggling to hold the big Weston eight and with Dean Jelf in the unaccustomed role of hooker due to injuries to Howells and Adiss Drybrooks lineout was also struggling to produce its usual fluent supply of possession.
Despite their lack of clean first phase possession Drybrook fought bravely in the loose and Kyle

.
Frowen time and again put his body on the line to earn a number of turn-overs.
With the half time whistle approaching Drybrook produced a piece of magic to get themselves back in the game. From a quickly taken tap penalty Tim Stevenson threaded a lovely Grubber kick through the defensive line and Mitch Baldwin collected the ball to dive in at the right-hand corner.
The conversion went astray and at half time the score was seven points to five in favour of the visitors.
The second half was every bit as physical as the first had been.
Weston again used their big forwards to drive upfield, and moved into a fourteen-points to five lead, after a succession of scrums and penalties gave the opportunity for Nel to barge over close to the posts, for an easily converted try.
To their credit back came Drybrook and their tenacity in the loose earned them a shot at goal which the returning Joe Winfield made no mistake with.
With just six-points now separating the teams Drybrook tried their best in an effort to grab the vital score, Weston, however used their forwards to maintain the ball and held on for a hard-earned victory.
Drybrook can take pride in the fact that they stayed in the battle and were as close as one score away from victory.
The next two games are away against table toppers Barnstaple and seasiders Exmouth.
It is a hard road to travel in this league and the boys are doing well, being more than competitive in every game they play.
I am certain that we can pull off a few upsets and it would be nice to see one of those occur next week.

Drive on Dry!
