Dismal at the All Blacks!

Drybrook managed to secure a losing bonus point away at Launceston.

Drybrook R.F.C 14pts

Drybrook managed to secure a losing bonus point away at Launceston but that is about the only positive to be taken from an otherwise uncharacteristic lack-lustre performance.
Launceston looked more up for the game and started the brighter. With only five minutes played they had already scored the opening try and converted it to take a seven -nil lead.
Drybrook huffed and puffed but never really got going and although they cancelled out most of what the home team had to offer, they rarely threatened themselves. When they were in a position to take points, they elected to kick for touch rather than goal, but were unable to put enough pressure on the home team to trouble the score-board.
Towards the end of the half Launceston were awarded a penalty which they did kick to take a

.
ten-point advantage into the break.
The second half started with Drybrook on the attack, but typical of the way the game was going Launceston intercepted a loose pass and raced away upfield. The scrambling Drybrook defence were forced to concede a penalty which Launceston converted to take a thirteen – nil lead.
Drybrook at last began to show some industry and when Captain Ben Large crossed for a try on seventeen minutes, the away support was hoping that their team might be able to produce what looked like an unlikely turn-around.
Launceston though are scrapping for everything at the bottom end of the table and came back with a converted try of their own to open up a thirteen-point cushion.
Drybrook now started to play a bit and on the
thirty-minute mark Tim Stevenson crossed for a try which he converted to bring Drybrook within seven points of the lead.
Try as they might Drybrook couldn’t manage any further score and it was the home team that were jubilant under the lights as the rain came down on the visitors.
Not one of Drybrooks best games, but not a total disaster, and I am sure they will be more than up for next weeks home clash in the reverse fixture against Newbury.
