Welsh Warm Up

Abergavenny 0
Drybrook 45

Drybrook played their first warm up game of the new campaign against Abergavenny and showed that there is plenty to be excited about as we look forward to the forthcoming season.
The new players on show slotted straight in to the team and by the time the first third was up, the crowd had already been treated to some scintillating ball play and Drybrook were nineteen points up.
The Drybrook backrow had a new look but were still exceptional in their work rate. It was great to see Kyle Frowen back in the green shirt and along with Bailey Watts and Tom Smith the quick ball they were supplying at the breakdown was utilised to the full by a young Drybrook back line which led to try’s being scored by Mitch

Baldwin and Luke Roberts who both looked quick and strong on the ball.
It was not only the youngsters who were enjoying themselves. Tom Reed, Ian Morgan and Ben ‘the tank’ Casey were making inroads into the Aber defences.
Mitch Hale and Will Greenwood were as solid as ever and it was Mitch who powered over for a converted try in the second third to increase the Drybrook tally.

The final third was again dominated by the Drybrook squad whose fierce scrummage and superior back play proved too much for a tiring Abergavenny and although they tried valiantly there was little they could do to stop Drybrook adding a further three try’s, two of which Andy Milner converted to give Drybrook a well-deserved victory.

There were a lot fine performances with the new boys in the front five showing up well and some exceptional handling out behind in tricky damp conditions.
Coaches Stevenson and Fortey were pleased with the way the team gelled given the fragmented structure of the trial and the new players coming in, and the knowledge that there are still a number of players to come back who were unavailable this week.

A lively bus journey home with several stops at local hostelries to sample their wares was enjoyed by all.
Next week Drybrook entertain Cinderford at the Manning’s in what is sure to be a much sterner examination of their progress.
Drive on Dry!
