Drybrook kicked off the first game of the season hosting Newent 2s with a 1 ocklock kick off before the 1sts go head to head in their first league fixture of the season.
Newent won the toss and kicked off down hill towards the club house. The first fifteen minutes proved to be very close between the two sides playing mid field with neither side giving any ground.
Then came Drybrooks first score from a kick over to Newent winger who secured the ball to find himself faced with Drybrooks Captain Jim Rugman with a huge tackle the ball went loose with Connor hale in close support to gather the ball and cross the line.
Drybrook gathered momentum and clearly showed off there pre season training by
running in a further five un answered try’s from Jack Freeman, Fenton Bourne, Tom Smith,Gareth Holdsworth and Elliot Beattie, before half time. Andrew Milner added the extras to all six first half try’s with ease. Giving a half time lead of 42-0 to the home side.
Drybrook kicked off the second half and within just ten minutes Gareth Holdsworth had crossed the line twice to secure a Hatrick of try’s for him. Once again Andrew Milner added the conversions.
Drybrook appeared to step off the gas slightly allowing Newent to score, followed by a high tackle from Andrew Milner sending him to the bin for ten minutes.
Newent took advantage of the extra man and scored once again to bring them up to twelve points.
Regan Marsh was the next player to add his name to the score board to add the cherry on top of his outstanding performance by scoring a great try under the posts. Unfortunately he didn’t get the conversion. To bring the game to a close Connor Hale scored his second of the match with Regan making sure he added the extra points. Closing the game out at 68-12.
Elliot Beattie Fenton Bourne Regan Marsh and Tom Smith proved to be huge assets in their debut games for Drybrook 2nds with Regan Marsh being named man of the match, being the crucial link between the forwards and backs and bossing the game extremely well. Special mention to Andrew Milner who’s kicking game was outstanding providing points and ground for Drybrook to play off.
