Forest Combination Colts rugby at Drybrook – 26th March 2017

Forest of Dean Combination Colts 53pts
Northampton Casuals 5pts

The Forest Colts XV enjoyed a springtime romp over the touring Northampton Casuals at a sunny Drybrook RFC on Sunday.
The Forest XV were made up of a sizeable contingent of players from Drybrook, as well as others from Cinderford, BerryHill, Bream, and Ross.
The perfect weather made for a running game and the Forest boys did not disappoint with some good handling and support play.

The first try came straight from the kick off with the Casuals not even touching the ball and the beneficiary was scrum half Liam Brady (Bream)
The next score was not long in coming and this time Ben Element (Ross) went over in the corner after some lovely handling from the Forest backs.
More great support play and offloading kept the Forest on the front foot and Northampton Casuals were feeling the pressure. It was no surprise when Ethan Brooks (Drybrook) went over for try number three.
The Casuals then began to get into the game and after concerted pressure they reduced the arrears with a try of their own after 25 minutes.
Mistakes began to creep into the Forest’s play
and a number of penalties were conceded that allowed the visitors to relieve the pressure and stay in the match.
Towards the end of the half the impressive Toby Powell (Cinderford) went close to scoring only to be called back for a forward pass. Minutes later though he made no mistake with a good run in for try number four which was converted by Tai Hayward (Ross) to complete the first half scoring.
Half Time:
Forest of Dean Combination Colts 22pts
Northampton Casuals 5pts
Drybrook’s Blake Smith got the second half off to a good start when he ran in for a try after being put clear on the overlap and Hayward converted.
Straight from the kick off Connor Parry (BerryHill) set off on a tremendous run that was only halted just short of the try line. Quick recycling resulted in Ryan Cassidy (Bream) going over to score.
Hayward then broke away from the cover to score his try assisted by some weak tackling from the tiring visitors to take the score to 39pts – 5pts.
The play became very scrappy after this but Blake Smith grabbed his second try of the afternoon, quickly followed by a second for Cassidy.
Hayward converted the last two tries to take the Forest side over the 50 point barrier.
The joint men of the match as voted by the visitors were Ross twin Ben and Josh Element.
