Teignmouth 15pts

A much improved performance from Drybrook brought the desired result against first time visitors Teignmouth, but there were still a few worrying moments before they finally secured the victory.
Teignmouth kicked off with the driving wind and rain at their backs and after some early pressure went ahead with a converted try when their outside half skipped over in the corner.
Fortunately the rain stopped and the sun came out and it was not long before Drybrook forced a penalty which Tom Treherne converted.
Teignmouth then lost a prop to injury which gave Drybrok a distinct advantage at the scrum and after 18 minutes the home side snatched the lead.
Some great action led to the visitor’s defence being stretched and the ball was fed out to winger Sam Peaper who raced in for a try on the overlap.
At this stage there was a lot of pace, pressure and positivity to Drybrook’s game and they increased the lead with a simple penalty in front of the posts for Treherne.
A good break from Simon Rugman came to nothing when the big centre lacked support but Treherne was able to put them further ahead, this time with a very well struck penalty from 40 metres.
The first half ended with Drybrook very much in the ascendency and looking forward to the second period.

The second half turned out to be very different with lots of errors creeping into Drybrook’s performance and frustration all round.
It began when the visitors grabbed a simple try out of nothing when a kick through led to a simple touch down.
Drybrook responded well and heavy pressure led to another Treherne penalty but after this they let themselves down with some wayward kicking from hand and some poor decision making.
With 20 minutes to go Drybrook lost No 8 Mitch Renton to the sin bin following a very harsh yellow card for a deliberate knock on and the home side had to dig deep to keep Teignmouth at bay.
With 5 minutes remaining Treherne gave Drybrook some breathing space with his 5th penalty, this one a belter from long distance.
At the death Teignmouth had a penalty themselves which they kicked to ensure a losing bonus point but with the last play of the game Treherne then had the chance of another penalty but this time his kick drifted wide.
For Drybrook the back row of Renton, Bourne and Price did well with second row Glenn Nott putting in a good shift.
Out behind centre Kristian Taft looked sharp but it was Tom Treherne who took the man of the match accolade with another good goal kicking display coupled with a solid performance in a rare outing at scrum half.
