A dramatic Tom Treherne penalty goal with the last play of the game gave Drybrook a narrow victory over visiting North Petherton.
The Somerset visitors gave it their all and will feel unfortunate not to have got at least a share of the spoils on a very wet and windy day at the Mannings.
Drybrook took the lead after 10 minutes with a Luke Fisher try from a driven line out and Treherne’s conversion put his side 7pts – nil up.
Drybrook continued to press but a way ward pass close to the visitors’ line led to an intercepted try which brought North Petherton level.
The home side quickly shrugged off this set back and Treherne struck a penalty after the visitors were penalized at a scrum.
Drybrook back row man Mitch Bourne was then denied a try when he was adjudged to have made a double movement following more pressure from the home side.
With the half drawing to a close, North Petherton broke down field and were awarded a penalty which they duly kicked to bring the scores level.

Half time:
Drybrook 10pts
North Petherton 10pts

It was very even for a long period of the second half in terms of possession and territory but North Petherton broke the stalemate after 23 minutes with a penalty goal to take the lead.
Drybrook had to up their game and they managed to do so with a prolonged period of pressure that led to another Treherne penalty goal.
Drybrook always looked the most likely to go on to win but they had to wait until the last minute before the chance came.
Following a lot of pressure a penalty award finally came and up stepped Treherne to coolly slot the difficult kick to hand victory to Drybrook.
This latest victory rounded off a very good first half of the season for Drybrook in the highly competitive South West 1 (West) league.
Mitch Bourne was voted Drybrook’s man of the match with new prop Todd Clark also impressing after he came on as a replacement 18 minutes into the second half.

Footnote
There was a danger that the game might not have gone ahead as the referee was unhappy about a few patches of standing water on the pitch.
Fortunately Drybrook’s very own Sponge Bob Square Pants, secretary Alan Miles, came to the rescue with his new aqua soaker to make sure everything turned out all right.
