Drybrook took a major scalp when they emerged victorious from this encounter with fourth placed Cornish visitors Camborne.
Right from the off Drybrook tore into the visitors with phase after phase of attacks which eventually led to centre Jack Simmons breaking through and rounding to the posts to make the conversion a formality for Tom Treherne.
It was all Drybrook in the opening 10 minutes and Treherne increased their lead with a penalty as the visitors defence began to get stretched.
With 14 minutes gone Drybrook had a chance of a score from a driving maul but it was pulled down illegally which resulted in a yellow card for Camborne.
Treherne slotted the resulting penalty but Drybrook failed to capitalise on the one man advantage and Camborne began to get a foothold in the game.
A strong Camborne scrum on 23 minutes resulted in a penalty in front of the Drybrook posts which was easily kicked.
With 5 minutes of the half remaining Drybrook prop Elliot White was yellow carded as Drybrook were put under a lot of pressure and only a tremendous cover tackle from flanker Niall Gibbons prevented a try in the corner.
Half Time:
Drybrook 13pts
Camborne 3pts
Within a few minutes of the second half getting underway Dry brook were reduced to 13 men when prop Mitch Renton was yellow carded for pulling down a maul.
Drybrook though played really well with 13 men and then when they were back up to 14 men they began to get on top. A period of domination was rewarded with a third Treherne penalty but Camborne soon hit back.
A prolonged period of pressure finally resulted in the Camborne winger nipping over in the corner for a try and with 20 minutes left it was anybody’s game.
Drybrook had a glorious chance to extend their lead when winger Harry Gooderham broke from half way. Treherne and winger Sam Peaper were in support but made a real mess of the three on one overlap with a forward pass.
Relentless Drybrook pressure should have brought further reward but Camborne held on and with 5 minutes to go another try went begging.
This time centre Jack Simmons made a tremendous break from inside his own half but failed to spot support on his inside and died with the ball.
The final score line did not do justice to Drybrook’s performance but they will need to sharpen up their passing and start taking the chances they create in order to continue their march up the table.
For Drybrook Jack Simmons was the match sponsors “Mowtech” man of the match.
