Drybrook Girls – Super Sunday

Sunday 10th November was a Super Sunday for Drybrook RFC Girls Section – all 3 girls bands were in action and all girls teams did Drybrook RFC proud.

Drybrook U13s grls travelled to Burnham on Sea to take part in a U13s Festival. Drybrook took 15 players and fielded 2 teams in the festival. Both teams played 7 games taking on teams from clubs such as Minehead and Exeter.

Drybrook players impressed throughout the afternoon, with one of Drybrooks teams winning the overall festival having won every game. Every single girl in both teams showed great skill and passion and an improvement in individual performance. The new girls who played in the tournament are to be congratulated on some great rugby. Well Done U13 girls.

Drybrook U15s and U18s made the trip to Tewkesbury for keenly awaited games.

The U15 girls played a fantastic rugby match and were the better side on the day. Drybrook won the game 45 – 5 and both forwards and backs worked well to gain the great result. Tries were scored by Shauna Bennett (4), Saska Bowdler (2) and Freya Jones, with Saska Bowdler also kicking 5 conversions. This game was great to watch with Drybrook girls really working well together to achieve a brilliant win. Shauna Bennett and Freya Jones were awarded Girls of the Game by Tewkesbury. Well Done to Courtney Penn, Holly May Hughes and Hope Brain who made debuts for Drybrook U15s girls and had very good first games.

Drybrooks U18 Girls had a tougher game in a very closely fought contest versus Tewkesbury U18s.

Drybrook Girls opened the scoring and led in the first half, their second try coming from an all involved team effort that saw the ball being passed from one side to the other with Tyler Tucker finishing off with an outstanding try. Tewkesbury made a come back and at half time the score was 12 – 10 to Drybrook. Drybrook battled on and eventually were rewarded for their great defence and determination by scoring another 2 tries.
The end score was Drybrook 24 – Tewkesbury 10. Drybrooks tries came from Hannah Meek (2), Ty Tucker, and Beth Lawrence with Maizie Morgan kicking 2 conversions. Girls of the Game were given to Hannah Meek and Ty Tucker.

Some of Drybrook Girls U15s and U18s will be in action playing for Gloucestershire against Oxfordshire on November 24th at Witney RFC – Good Luck to all the Drybrook Girls involved!
