A losing bonus point was scant reward for Drybrook in this match in Bristol in a game they could easily have won.
In spite of starting the game with a number of changes to the selected line up, they started the game full of running and showed good hands to put winger Mitch Baldwin over in the corner after five minutes.
Soon after this, Drybrook were penalized for holding on after the tackle. and Bristolians took the score to 5 – 3
Eight minutes later, the home side showed their intention when they destroyed a Drybrook scrum leading to a penalty for breaking up. The ensuing line out was won by Bristolians who pounced on a gap and scored near the posts.
Following the restart Drybrook were awarded a penalty on the Bristolians 22 metre line and Tom Treherne converted to close the gap.
A period of intense pressure followed with Bristolians going through several phases until Drybrook ran out of defenders and moving the ball wide, a converted try was scored on the half hour.
Drybrook immediately mounted a scintillating attack, forwards and backs linking to cross the home side’s line. The ball was held up but, from the ensuing scrum, Drybrook grounded the ball. Unfortunately the referee was unsighted and awarded another scrum. No 8 Mitch Renton picked up, fed Treherne who, in turn put winger Kristian Taft over in the corner.

The second half began with the game switching to and fro, neither side gaining the upper hand. Eventually, another period of pressure led to a maul on the Bristolians line and flanker Sam Peaper squeezed over in the corner taking the score to 18 – 17 in Drybrook’s favour almost half an hour into the half.
Conceding two late penalties, Drybrook slipped behind 23 – 18 and were unable to claw their way back into the game. Several lost line-outs and wrong option taking cost them dear in the closing stages.
