25th August 2012 – Drybrook 66pts Swindon Supermarine 7pts

Following on from last week’s success at Trimsaran, Drybrook hit top form in this match against a team ranked higher in league status and by the end of the game the visitors were left shell shocked.
There was no hint of what was to come in the early stages as both teams competed well but Drybrook gradually took control and spent an impressive amount of time in the visitor’s half.
On 20 minutes Drybrook finally got the breakthrough when centre Tom Treherne nipped in for a try that he converted himself.
Play then became scrappy for a while until Drybrook were able to force a scrum 15 metres out from which No 8 Toby McCormick and scrum half Carl Moore combined to put Ben Large in under the posts.
Just before the break Moore pressurised the visitor’s scrum half into a mistake on his own line and he was able to pounce for a simple score for Treherne to again convert.

The game was all but over at the start of the second half when all action flanker Lee Ward crossed for two tries in quick succession. The first came from a kick through where Drybrook had plenty of players chasing up. The ball was quickly recycled to Ward who crossed in the corner.
A few minutes later Ward was again the beneficiary when relentless pressure led to a score in the opposite corner that Treherne was able to convert.
Supermarine’s heads started to drop but there was no let up with the next score probably the best of the game when winger Mitch Baldwin and Carl Moore linked up in midfield to put

centre Luke Fisher through the gap. Fisher still had a lot of ground to make before he dived over behind the posts to make the conversion a formality for Treherne.
Two more tries followed in quick succession with half backs Moore and Large revelling in the space provided by a dominant pack and Large was able to complete his try hat trick with two scores near the posts with Treherne again adding the extras.
Play then became a little fragmented with the match drawing to a close but there was still time for Drybrook to add two more tries.
Prop Nick Ovens scored the first when he capitalised on a forward surge to the line and then out of nowhere the visitors grabbed an unlikely try under the home posts following a speculative chip ahead.
Right at the death substitute Pete Meek completed the rout with Drybrook’s 10th try and Treherne converted to give himself a personal haul of 21pts from the game.
There were a number of players who did well for Drybrook with Lee Ward the pick of an industrious forward unit. Out behind Carl Moore looked electric at scrum half but it was young stand off Ben Large who shaded the man of the match award with his try hat trick coming from some excellent support play whilst his distribution and defensive work were top class.

Drybrook’s second string got off to the best possible start to the season with this comprehensive victory.
Winger Jack Davies then put Drybrook further ahead with a try in the corner and just before the interval good inter-linking between backs and forwards led to Milner crossing for a try which Ben Roberts converted.
Drybrook began to get on top as the second half wore on and they were able to add 5 further tries through Dan Large, Kane Hale, Rob Clyne, Ashley Burris and Davies who grabbed his second.
Milner, Roberts and Adam Swordy all kicked one second half conversion apiece.
