Forest of Dean and District Combination Minor Cup Final

DRYBROOK EXTRAS CROWNED FOREST CHAMPIONS

Drybrook Extras 7pts
BerryHill Wappers 3pts

Drybrook Extras skipper Jimmy Ryder raised the cup for Drybrook after a typically tense but uninspiring final between two teams who know each other inside out.
This was the first ever Forest final held at the Ross Greytree ground and both sides attempted to exert their authority in a first half that was largely dominated by a mid field battle between the opposing packs.
With half an hour gone the first score came when Drybrook flanker Jim Rugman was penalised for a late tackle in the Hill 22 metre area and scrum half Aaron Ryder put over the resulting penalty from where the clearance kick had landed.

This spurred Drybrook into action and they exerted a lot of pressure at the end of the half where scrum half Chris Treherne was able to dummy over for a try following a quick tap penalty.
Treherne’s successful conversion gave his team a narrow lead at the break.
Drybrook had most of the play in the second half and Treherne missed 3 kickable penalties as they looked to be getting on top.
With time running out BerryHill made one last effort and had Drybrook defending desperately at times. BerryHill waived the opportunity of a penalty in front of the posts to go for a try but Drybrook held out and eventually cleared up field before running down the clock to secure the cup.

For the first time in the history of the Forest cup competitions an official man of the match award was awarded and it was Jimmy Ryder who stepped up to receive the bottle of champagne. He wasted no time in soaking his team mates and the Combination officials in true Formula 1 style.
