Extras claim third Forest Final Spot for Drybrook

Forest of Dean Minor Cup Semi-Final – Bream United 9pts Drybrook Extras 11pts

Drybrook’s third string just squeezed home against Bream’s second team in this typically hard fought Forest cup semi-final at the High Street ground.
Defences were on top throughout in a game littered with mistakes but what it lacked in quality it more than made up for with excitement as the issue was in doubt until the final whistle.
Bream opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a penalty from outside half John Wilkes but Drybrook soon levelled with a penalty from Craig Boughton who was playing in the unaccustomed position of outside half due to injury and unavailability.
Wilkes extended the Bream lead on 16 minutes with a second penalty but the rest of the first half was played out with neither team creating any real pressure or chances.

Drybrook quickly got on top at the scrum.
A series of scrums deep in Bream territory eventually led to a pushover score for Drybrook No 8 Peter Meek and it looked comfortable for the visitors at this stage.
Drybrook then lost the plot and instead of clearing their lines they tried to run from deep and Bream quickly closed them down.
Wilkes had the chance to put them ahead with the resulting penalty but pushed it just wide but just minutes later Drybrook prop Andy Jones was penalised for a high tackle and Wilkes made no mistake with the kick.
Drybrook then had to chase the game and brought some urgency into their play and their cause was assisted when Havers was shown a second yellow card after a scuffle broke out amongst the forwards.
With time running out Boughton put Drybrook into the lead once more with his second penalty but there was still time for Bream to launch one last attack.

Bream were awarded a kickable penalty but chose to kick to the corner and Drybrook gratefully cleared.
Drybrook Extras now go on to meet the winners of Cinderford Bucks and BerryHill Wappers in the final at Ross on May 11th
