Triumph almost slipped under the Radar – Drybrook United are League Champions!

Now that the dust has settled on another successful season it is time to pay tribute to the club’s United XV.
The narrow defeat in the Combination Final (after extra time) took the gloss off what had up until then been a very successful campaign for the team.
They swept to the title in the Gloucestershire RFU Premier Reserve League, losing only one game in the process.
Unfortunately this achievement has seemed to have slipped under the radar somewhat which

is why we are putting the record straight now.
Skipper Andy Milner and manager Dave Auker-Howlett worked wonders to get a strong team out each week and managed to keep the enthusiasm going despite the number of matches cancelled by the opposition clubs.
A total of 13 matches were called off and not surprisingly most of those games were scheduled to be played at the Mannings. Fortunately one or two rearranged fixtures were picked up to fill some of the gaps and in the end 21 matches were actually played.

A lack of continuity and match practice towards the end of the season was a major factor in the below par performance in the cup final.
Skipper Andy Milner headed the point’s scorers with 89 points and Gareth Holdsworth scored the most tries (7). Kieran Auker-Howlett made the most appearances by appearing in 19 of the games.
Each player who played in the league campaign will be awarded a commemorative medal at the club dinner on 20th May.
