Forest of Dean Combination Minor Cup Quarter-Final

Westbury-on-Severn 2nds 7pts
Drybrook Extras 42pts

The Extras cruised into the final following this victory as they have a bye in the semi-final and must now wait to see the outcome of the Ross 2nds/Cinderford Bucks game to find out who they meet in the final.
A strong cross wind greeted both teams on a chilly evening but Drybrook were soon into their stride and went ahead with a try in the corner through Will Bailey with Jimmy Ryder adding the conversion.
Westbury made Drybrook fight hard for possession and denied them time and again until Chris Rawlings grabbed the second try with Ryder again adding the extras.
It was 30 minutes on the clock when Drybrook scored again and it was that man Rawlings who was the beneficiary of a pushover try following a good shove from the Drybrook pack.

Ryder’s conversion gave Drybrook a 21pts to nil cushion at the break.

There was huge disappointment at the interval when former Drybrook legend Dave Williams was substituted by Westbury for a younger model.
His legion of supporters wondered whether this would be the last time they would ever see their hero on the field again.
The second half started with Westbury seeing more of the ball but Drybrook managed to score first when giant second row Marcus Cowles powered over under the posts to make the conversion easy for Ryder.
Rawlings then sensed the opportunity of a rare hat-trick but was held up in the in goal area and Westbury stormed down field to open their account. A succession of rucks and mauls close to the line ended with a try for Graham Morris.
It was end to end stuff for a while but Drybrook

regained the initiative when a clearance kick was charged down and the loose ball was snaffled by Ryder for a simple try under the sticks.
Injured in the process, Ryder handed the kicking duties to Craig Boughton who made no mistake with the easy kick.
With the game drawing to a close, Drybrook’s best player on the night Gareth Holdsworth, cruised in for try number 6 and Boughton converted to complete the scoring.
The final is due to be played at Bream RFC.
