Drybrook Ladies vs Oakmeadian Ladies (away) 20th March 2016

oakmeadians-away

Drybrook Ladies set off early Sunday morning Bournemouth bound for the last but one league game for the 2015 – 2016 season against Oakmeadians.
Drybrook were short of a few of the usual players and only had four on the bench unlike the usual 8.
However that did not deter them in any way.
The game kicked off but within 2 minutes Drybrook found themselves under their own posts. This was surely a wake up call.
On the sixth minute some hard work from the Drybrook pack after a penalty 10 meters from the Oaks line lead to Roxanne Carter crashing over to score for the away side making the score 7 – 5.
Only three minutes later Ellie Underwood found space in the Oaks defence running 40 meters weaving in and out to score a converted Try giving Drybrook the lead 7 – 12.
Five minutes later this time the home side hit back scoring out wide making the score even at 12 – 12.
Then Drybrook took a blow, when loose head Lucie Smith was removed from the field with a calf injury.
Just moments later Oaks crossed the Drybrook line to take the lead with a converted try to 19 – 12.
A determined Ellie Underwood took a quick tap and go penalty from the half way once again running straight through the Oaks defence to score another converted try to even the scores at 19 – 19.
With 8 minutes left to play before half time Oaks managed to bag themselves a further two tries to give them the lead into half time 29 – 19.
The second half kicked off and Oaks were the first to score increasing their lead once again to 34 – 19.
Then further heartache fell on the away side when Chanise Beard fell injured breaking her ankle in two places after placing her body on the line for her fellow team mates with a heroic tackle under the posts.
Unfortunately the ball was recycled and Oaks crossed the white wash touching down once more.
The game changed pitches while Chanise waited with company for the ambulance to arrive.
Drybrook as a team worked so hard to close the gap with a further three tries scored by Ellie Underwood but it was too little too late as Oaks scored yet again to end the game 46 – 36.
Drybrook are sitting in second place in the league with one game left to play against Collumpton to decide the winner on the 17th April. Come on Squirrels.

Players of the match went to Ellie Underwood for her outstanding performance and Natasha Kibble for her hard work throughout the game.
