A rearranged fixture for Drybrook U15s saw them come up against Cleve, finalists in the Gloucestershire County Cup last season. Although beaten by 38 points to 10, Drybrook did well but will have learnt a lot about being switched on and ‘alive’ for all of the game especially in defence and taking their chances when they arrive.
At the start Cleve, came out with all guns blazing and within five minutes were ahead by 12 points to nil scoring two quick tries. A stern talking to by the coaches behind the posts, Drybrook decided to wake up and they began to play a bit of rugby themselves. A period of pressure near the Cleve line earned them a penalty which was move right quickly for Rohan Parry to score near the corner.
Drybrook then spent a long period deep in Cleve territory but all for nought in terms of points on the board. In the last five minutes of the first half, lapses in Drybrooks defence let Cleve in for two tries both from distance and both converted. At half time the score was 5 points to 26.
The second half was better for Drybrook they scored the first try of the half through Rohan Parry, but again late on through defensive errors Cleve ran in two more tries one of which was converted. The final score 38 points to 10 in Cleves favour.
