Drybrook Under 15s vs Cleve

A rearranged fixture for Drybrook U15s saw them come up against Cleve, finalists in the Gloucestershire County Cup last season. Although beaten by 38 points to 10, Drybrook did well but will have learnt a lot about being switched on and ‘alive’ for all of the game especially in defence and taking their chances when they arrive.

At the start Cleve, came out with all guns blazing and within five minutes were ahead by 12 points to nil scoring two quick tries. A stern talking to by the coaches behind the posts, Drybrook decided to wake up and they began to play a bit of rugby themselves. A period of pressure near the Cleve line earned them a penalty which was move right quickly for Rohan Parry to score near the corner.

Drybrook then spent a long period deep in Cleve territory but all for nought in terms of points on the board. In the last five minutes of the first half, lapses in Drybrooks defence let Cleve in for two tries both from distance and both converted. At half time the score was 5 points to 26.

The second half was better for Drybrook they scored the first try of the half through Rohan Parry, but again late on through defensive errors Cleve ran in two more tries one of which was converted. The final score 38 points to 10 in Cleves favour.

Tewkesbury vs Drybrook U15s

Drybrook U15s travelled to Tewkesbury and after a couple of defeats in recent weeks to strong opposition, they bounced back with a convincing and confidence boosting win outscoring Tewkesbury by 56 points to 7. Worthy of a mention for scoring three tries is Ellis Peacey, but overall this was a team performance with nine different players getting on the scorecard.

The first half saw Drybrook score four tries with one conversion in the windy conditions. Drybrook started strongly and spent a long period in and around the Tewkesbury 22 metre line. It wasn’t until 15 minutes in however did they cross for a score. Centre Ellis Peacey ran strongly as with the pressure, a gap opened up for him to run through and cross the line. Five minutes later fly half Brad Morgan jinked back to the narrow side and a classy pass gave flanker Harry Jones the opportunity to score. Peacey scored again as the forwards won a scrum against the head and was the recipient of some good passing. Flanker Lucas Gardner then found himself in much space after Drybrook turned over Tewkesbury ball. With a clean pair of heals, Gardener ran in from 40 metres to score near the posts. Brad Morgan converted.

At half time the score was Drybrook 22 points, Tewkesbury nil.

The second half started with Tewkesbury on top and stung Drybrook when they scored a converted try. After that, Drybrook didn’t look back – six tries were ran in without answer. Scrum half Jack Worgan, winger Kieran Mahoney, centre Rohan Parry, second row Harrison Peates, Ellis Peacey (his third score) and wing Sam Horton all crossed the line. Two conversions were made by Worgan and Parry.
