Drybrook u15s vs Thornbury u15s – 8th November 2015

Wednesday evenings training session augured well for the under 15s with some 22 players turning out to enjoy the session. However with a number of unavailabilities and injuries, Drybrook travelled to play Thornbury with fourteen.

To allow the game to take place, Drybrook borrowed a number of Thornbury players and after the Remembrance Day minute silence, the match kicked off at 11 am.

The first quarter of the game was evenly contested with both sides probing and defending well. Thornbury looked stronger at the breakdown with Drybrook looking stronger at the scrum. On the fifteen minute mark and deep in Thornbury territory, Drybrook turned over the ball which was gathered by the Thornbury winger who raced 70 metres to the Drybrook line to score under the posts. The try was converted. Late on in the first half

Thornbury scored two quick tries before the referee blew the whistle. It was 19 points to nil in Thornburys favour at half time.

The second half for Drybrook was very strong, they spent most of the half deep in Thornbury territory and much time inside the twenty two. For all the territory and pressure however, Drybook only manage to score one try through Aiden Haynes following up after a heavy defensive push near the Thornbury line. The try was converted by Rohan Parry. On several occasions Drybrook came close to scoring but the Thornbury defence remained resolute. Late on Thornbury attacked and managed to score a final try, making the score at the end 24 points to 7.

On balance, Thornbury deserved their win because they took their chances, but the Drybrook lads who turned out can be proud of contribution in the match.
