Drybrook’s encouraging start to the season conitnued with this bonus point win at Coney Hill.
Only two minutes into the game a superb break by flanker Joe Tingle took play to the Coney Hill 22 where the home side were penalized for killing the ball. Tom Treherne slotted the conversion for a 3 – 0 lead.
Despite their scrum being severely disrupted by the Hill forwards, Drybrook managed to attack and eventually Treherne scored another penalty when Hill backs were caught offside, taking the score to 6 – 0 after ten minutes.
Some spirited exchanges followed with both sides attacking. Eventually, under heavy pressure, Drybrook were penalized for a late tackle. Hill pressed and Drybrook were again penalized. Coney Hill took a quick penalty, caught Drybrook Napping and ran in a converted try, taking the lead 7 – 6. At this point Alan Richards left the field injured, Coombs came on at scrum half and Baldwin moved to the wing. Ben Large took over at 10.
Five minutes later, following a penalty, Drybrook kicked for touch and a catch and drive led to a try for Luke Fisher. 11 – 7 to Drybrook.
Drybrook forwards were now gaining some ascendancy in loose play and when Hill were penalized for not releasing, a line-out followed by another driving maul, took play deep into the Hill 22 where their number 7 was yellow carded for coming in at the side. From the penalty Drybrook won the line-out and ran the ball, a superb cross kick from Captain Ben Large found winger Mitch Baldwin who ran in a excellent try taking the score to 16 – 7.
Drybrook launched another attack with forwards and backs. Mitch Hale and Mitch Renton both making good breaks. Eventually the backs combined to put Mitch Baldwin over for his second try. Tom Treherne slotted the conversion.

At the start of the second half, Neil Morgan was yellow carded for offside, the team having previously been warned. Coney Hill came close to scoring following the penalty but unfortunately knocked on as they crossed the line.
Hill infringed at the scrum and Drybrook were awarded a free kick, Hill protested and a full penalty was awarded ten mtrs on. Drybrook ran the ball, Hill were penalized for a high tackle and Treherne again slotted the kick. 25 – 7.
Glen Nott replaced Neil Morgan at the end of the sin bin and Drybrook continued to pressurize Hill. After 15 minutes of the half the Coney Hill No 8 was red carded for punching. Shortly after, Drybrook second row, Nott, was shown a yellow card for a professional foul.
Coney Hill then fought back through their forwards and added a converted try.
Both sides now went on the attack and some end to end play ended with a Drybrook line-out and a forward drive down the field. From this Joe Tingle crossed for a well deserved try, duly converted by Treherne. The final whistle went with Drybrook running our 33 – 14 winners.
