Drybrook just edged this promotion show down in Bristol largely due to a sensational start in which they built up a 12pt lead inside the first 3 minutes.
The first try came straight from the kick off when stand off Chris Rawlings put in a testing up and under that bounced kindly for supporting winger Sam Peaper who raced clear to score.
Two minutes later a good scrum on half way gave the opportunity for no 8 Mitch Renton and scrum half Carl Moore to exploit a blindside gap and following several offloads flanker Liam Jackson touched down with support all around him.
Mitch Baldwin put over the difficult conversion but Southmead quickly regrouped to make a real contest of it.
With 15 minutes gone the home side put over a penalty to close the gap and then it was fast and furious for a period as both teams battle to gain the upper hand.
Drybrook lost line out specialist Rich Cottrell after 20 minutes with a facial injury and then Southmead kicked a second penalty to reduce the deficit further.
With 30 minutes gone Drybrook scored their third try when a catch and drive from a lineout on the home 22 metre line resulted in Moore claiming the touch down.
Southmead threw everything into attack in an effort to get back in it and when Baldwin tried to run out of defence he became isolated and the home side took full advantage by kicking the resulting penalty.

Drybrook had to withstand a lot of pressure in the first 20 minutes of the second half but they stuck at it and managed to keep the home side out.
With 25 minutes gone Southmead were given a life line when a speculative kick through was touched down on the in goal area by Baldwin but the referee thought he did not have it under control and awarded a try to the supporting Southmead player.
The successful conversion brought Southmead to within one point and feeling hard done by, Drybrook quickly got a score back.
From the restart back row man Andy Chesters was up quickly to close down the ball carrier and a penalty resulted in front of the home posts which Baldwin kicked.
Southmead responded with a lot of pressure and Drybrook were repeatedly penalized but fortunately none were from a kickable position.
With the minutes ticking away Drybrook got themselves to within a few metres of the home line where they were happy to grind out the victory with a series of pick and goes as they wound down the clock.
For Drybrook substitute Andy Chesters had a big game but man of the match went to centre Luke Fisher who was particularly solid in defence.
