Drybrook U14s vs Cheltenham Tigers – Sunday 8th February 2015

Dybrook U14s 70pts – Cheltenham Tigers 5pts

Drybrook U14s were far too strong for Cheltenham Tigers who to be fair stuck to their task throughout the game.

Cheltenham kicked off the game and with a clean take by the Drybrook forwards the ball was fed to the backs. Centre Ellis Peacey made the gain line with ease and as he broke two tackles the space opened up in front of him and he took advantage. Lengthening his stride over 40 metres he raced in under the posts. Rohan Parry converted.

Six minutes later Peacey had scored again. With Drybrooks forwards dominating, the half backs -Jack Worgan at scrum half and Rohan Parry at fly half used the ball well to release the powerful centre combination Jay Fellows and Peacey. Simply catching a passing the ball with pace, gave Peacey the chance to stretch his legs again. From about 30 metres out this time, Peacey again strode to the posts for his second score. Parry again converted.

So within less than ten minutes the tone of the match was set. Two tries followed quickly from Jay Fellows and then second row Jarred Field got on to the sheet with a take from a five metre lineout and crash over in the corner. Both tries went unconverted. Next a show of pace from Sam Horton who scored between the sticks, converted by Parry, then Peacey scored his hat-trick try just before half time. The half-time score was 36 points to nil.

In the second half Drybrook made a few changes having a couple of substitutes and the game resumed. The ‘try scoring fest’ continued and another 34 points were scored. Peacey scored the first two tries of the half taking his personal tally to five, one was converted by Parry. The last four Drybrook tries came from the forwards; two more from Jarred Field (a personal hat-trick), one converted try from Ben Jones and the last try of the game from Caleb Lloyd.

From Drybrooks point of view, the only ‘blot’ was a consolation try for Cheltenham which came mid-way through the second half, their tall second row crashing over from a tap penalty five metres out. The final score 70 points to 5 in Drybrooks favour.

The coaches ‘men of the match’ were forward Jarred Field and back Lee Wakefield for his tackling, with Ben Jones taking a ‘special’ award for dropping the ball at a kick off!
