Drybrook made hard work of overcoming Gordon League in a game where they were constantly penalized and were consequently unable to get into any sort of rhythm.
League slowed the game down wherever possible but in the end Drybrook’ superior fitness and organization won the day.
The home side made the early running and make good use of the Hempstead Lane slope with a strong wind also to their advantage.
Drybrook weathered the storm and patiently worked up field and spent a lot of time in the League half.
With 20 minutes gone Drybrook were held up over the home line but from the resulting scrummage No 8 Liam Jackson picked up and drove over to score.
Fullback Mitch Baldwin added the conversion but the remainder of the half proved fairly uneventful with a series of long injury stoppages coupled with some stop start rugby not helped by constant infringement from both teams.

Half Time: Gordon League nil Drybrook 7pts

Drybrook were quickly out of the blocks in the second half and with only 2 minutes on the clock prop forward Nick Ovens latched onto a loose line out ball on half way and raced 35 meters before being brought down. The ball was quickly recycled and fed out on the overlap to centre Luke Fisher who cruised in for a simple try.
Gordon League then had a good spell and opened up their account with a penalty on 20 minutes but after this frustration crept into Drybrook’s play as they could do nothing to please the referee.
Every time Drybrook looked like getting back on top they were sent backwards with yet another penalty and with 15 minutes to go they lost hooker Craig Clarke to the sin bin for not retreating quickly enough.
Despite this set back Drybrook rallied strongly and Ben Large brought them to within striking distance of the home line with a great break.
A penalty finally came Drybrook’s way but Baldwin was unlucky to see his effort bounce the wrong way off the upright.
Drybrook were able to kept League penned back and were finally rewarded when Jackson scored his second following a rolling maul.

Drybrook United 16pts Lydney United 19pts

Drybrook’s second string lost for the first time this season where a much changed team were beaten by a good young Lydney United outfit.
Drybrook allowed Lydney to build up a commanding lead in the first half before a spirited comeback almost brought victory.
Andy Milner kicked an early penalty for Drybrook but Lydney were soon in their stride and broke several tackles for their fist try.
More poor defence allowed Lydney to run in 2 converted tries before Milner added a second penalty for the home side.

After the interval Drybrook improved dramatically and closed the gap with a converted try from skipper Milner.
The loss of Rob Clyne with a neck injury was a set back for Drybrook but they stuck to their task and Milner edged them closer with another penalty.
Unfortunately time ran out for Drybrook and with it went their 100% league record this season.
The stand out players for Drybrook were Pete Meek and Mitch Browning.

Drybrook Extras 18pts Cheltenham Saracens 2nds 22pts

Manager Tony Hussey had to pull out all the stops to get out a side for Drybrook Extras after so many unavailabilies had decimated his team.
Fortunately for him he passed the Euroclydon Nursing Home on his way to the club just in time to see Chris Treherne and Lee Wilks being let out for the day. Both were still under the influence of their medication when they agreed to make up the numbers so fortunately the game was able to go ahead.
Saracens capitalized on Drybrook’s slow start and following a couple of injuries which led to the loss of key players, the home side began to struggle.
Drybrook finally got a foot hold with some pick and driving in the second half and scored two good tries but had left it too late to effect the result.
For Drybrook Chris Treherne and Craig Boughton were the try scorers with Boughton adding 2 penalties and a conversion.
After the match Hussey made sure Wilks and Treherne were returned to Matron well before their 7pm deadline.
