Newent u14s vs Drybrook u14s – Sunday 30th November 2014

Newent u14s 19pts
Drybrook u14s 36pts
On sunny Sunday 30th November, Drybrook visited Newent RFC, Watery Lane to play a friendly fixture at U14 level. In summary, Drybrook won by 36 points to 19 scoring six tries to Newents three. The Drybrook coaches made Lee Wakefield man of the match for his excellent defence and tackling, but in all honesty it could have been any of the lads, they all played well. Unsung heros in the forwards worth of a particular mention, Kyran Worgan at hooker, Jack Mcleod at prop and wing forward

Lucas Gardner all worked tirelessly, in the backs Harry Jones, Ellis Peacey and Lee Wakefield stood out.
Newent kicked off the match and unforced errors from Drybrook allowed Newent to exert early pressure near the Drybrook line. After a couple of minutes and couple of phases of play, Newent scored a try near the posts, converted by their kicker. From the restart, Drybrook
applied themselves more and managed to win a scrum inside the Newent half. The ball was fed by fly half Jack Worgan to centre Ellis Peacey who used his pace to outstrip the Newent defence and score a try for Drybrook. Jack Worgan converted making it 7 points apiece. At the 10 minute mark, Newent found themselves deep in Drybrook territory and following a scrum, a loose ball was gathered by a Newent forward who crashed over in the corner. The riposte from Drybrook came quickly, great pressure from the forwards set up a ruck near the Newent line and a pop pass from scrum half Lee Wakefield to ‘Big’ Ben Jones allowed

thesecond row forward to smash over.
One of the Newent front row forwards left the field with a leg injury and as the replacement was not a prop, the scrums became uncontested. Eventually after a number of Drybrook scrums near the Newent line, No. 8 Caleb Lloyd crashed over for a try, converted wide out by Jack Worgan. On the 25 minute mark, further Drybrook pressure by the forwards saw second row Jarred Field score between the posts, Jack Worgan again converted. Half time score 26 points to 12 in Drybrooks favour.
Drybrook swapped things around positionally at half time, allowing their two substitutes to see some action.
The second half began with Drybrook making inroads into Newent territory. Newent defended well and for 10 minutes or so kept Drybrook from scoring. Against the run of play, Newent cleared with a big kick and a mix up between Drybrooks wing and full back allowed the Newent centre to fly hack the ball to the

Drybrook line and score a try which was converted. Drybrook again made big territorial gains, but Newent defended manfully and ran the ball from their own line into the Drybrook half only to be thwarted by a Lee Wakefield try saving tackle. From the ensuing scrum and then from second phase, Drybrooks Rohan Parry at fly half fed Sam Horton who in turn passed to Kieran Mahoney who scored a try wide in the corner. On the twenty minute mark into the second half from a scrum, Jack Worgan now at scrum half passed to Rohan Parry who scored himself, juggling the ball as he went.
The match finished with Drybrook in control playing in the Newent half, final score 36 points to 19.
