A lapse of concentration 5 minutes from time was Drybrook’s undoing as they failed to achieve a victory that was theirs for the taking.
Bridgewater dominated the opening 20 minutes and Drybrook had to withstand a lot of pressure before they finally began to see a bit more of the ball.
Despite their scrum being taken apart, Drybrook worked hard to make inroads into the visitor’s territory, but they suffered a set back when Simon Rugman was yellow carded after tackling someone after the whistle had blown.
Despite this they upped their game and went close on a number of occasions before Tom Treherne put them into a 3 point lead with a penalty after 25 minutes.
As half time approached Drybrook threw everything at the visitors who lost a player to the bin as they tried desperately to defend their line.
All that Drybrook had to show for their efforts was another penalty but unfortunately Treherne was off target with a relatively easy kick.

Half Time:
Drybrook 3pts
Bridgewater and Albion nil

Drybrook soon got into their stride in the second half and a great break from debutant centre Jack Simmons unfortunately came to nothing through lack of support.
With 10 minutes gone a Drybrook kick ahead rebounded off a Bridgewater player and this gave the visitors a good field position to mount a series of attacks.
Eventually a penalty was awarded but Bridgewater opted for a scrum and a good handling move led to a try in the corner for the winger.
Drybrook could make little headway in mid field against a strong defensive line but they began to make lot of ground through their driving maul.
Into the last 10 minutes Drybrook were awarded a penalty and following a kick to the corner they should have gone for a catch and drive try. In the end they went for a complicated move that eventually led to the ball being knocked on under the visitor’s posts.
Bridgewater gratefully cleared but Drybrook were soon on the attack again and Treherne was able to put them ahead with a well struck penalty.
Drybrook made a mess of the restart and this allowed Bridgewater to mount an attack which led to the fullback breaking through two missed tackles to touch down wide out.
It was hard luck on Drybrook after such a battling performance but there was just enough time to try and get back into it.
The last 2 minutes led to some frantic attacking and equally desperate defence from the visitors but in the end the Somerset man were able to see out the victory.
Back row man Mitch Bourne was again Drybrook’s man of the match.

League Cup Round 1

Drybrook Extras enjoyed their trip to Bristol where they faced Ashley Down Old Boys second string in the initial round of the league cup.
Drybrook couldn’t have had a better start when full back Gareth Goldsworth crossed for a try in the first minute, coasting past would be tacklers on his way to the line.
Drybrook’s forwards worked hard and were dominant throughout the game, supplying plenty of clean ball for the backs to use from the set piece.
In particular powerful runs from men of the match Number 8 Mitch Hale and second row Chris Skelton gave Drybrook the platform to go forward on numerous occasions and they eventually wore down a resilient home defence.
Try scorers for Drybrook were Mitch Hale (2), Connor Hale, Gareth Holdsworth and Alex isles with Andy Milner adding one conversion.
