Drybrook remain at the top of the table after overcoming a spirited fight back from Newent.
Drybrook went ahead after 10 minutes when some great inter passing and support play led to a try in the corner for flanker Josh Element.
Newent responded positively and a smart backs move almost led to a try but Drybrook survived and then took the game to the visitors with several phases of attacks.
Towards the end of the half it was Newent on the attack again and some panicky Drybrook defence almost led to an equalising score.
Drybrook played really well at the start of the second period and soon increased their lead. An intelligent kick ahead from Kieran Auker-Howlett was followed up and a great off load from Connor Parry led to Element crossing for his second try.

A great move from the restart almost brought a try from winger Harry Rushworth but he knocked on in the in goal area but Drybrook’s enterprise was rewarded a few minutes later when Auker-Howlett put over a penalty.

It was all Drybrook at this stage and they swept into a 20pts – nil lead when they ran from deep and centre Alex Isles glided past several defenders on his way to the line with Auker-Howlett adding the extras.
With 15 minutes to go Drybrook threw on a lot of substitutes and when Newent lost a man injured, the scrums had to go to uncontested.
Newent began to see more of the ball and when Drybrook lost a player to the sin bin they used the one man advantage well to score 2 tries through Leo Oakley with Tom Webb adding both conversions.

It was a nervous last few minutes for Drybrook but they regrouped to see out time.
Drybrook’s man of the match was flanker Josh Element with Newent fullback Nathen Nunes their star player.
Drybrook Colts were slightly under strength against Newent due to Will Greenway, Joe Watts and Will Biggs representing the County XV against Berkshire. They joined former Drybrook junior section player Mac Dale in the county squad but unfortunately ended up on the losing side after a very close game.
