Drybrook secured their place in the area final following a good showing in Bristol against the only team to have beaten them so far this season.

Facing the torrential rain and playing up the slight slope Drybrook quickly got into their stride and went ahead after 3 minutes with a well struck penalty from Tom Treherne.

Whitehall hit straight back and pegged Drybrook in the corner for 10 minutes and the visitors did well to relieve the pressure with a break out that almost brought a try for scrum half Carl Moore.

Both teams found the conditions challenging but Drybrook adapted well and had the majority of play which was finally rewarded with a second Treherne penalty after 30 minutes.

Whitehall came back immediately and opened their account with a penalty after Drybrook had strayed offside at a ruck.

Right on the stroke of half time Drybrook ran the ball wide to debutant winger Charlie Dagwell who showed great pace to cruise in for a try from half way.

Drybrook immediately put Whitehall under pressure in the second half and were rewarded when winger Sam Peaper was put clear down the blind side of a scrum for a try in the corner.

It was all Drybrook in the second half but a combination of the wet ball and slippery conditions underfoot kept the scoring opportunities to a minimum.

Drybrook eventually scored a third try when man of the match No 8 Liam Jackson broke from a scrum and created the space for Peaper to race in for his second with Treherne adding the conversion.

This was a good display from Drybrook in some really testing conditionsand they now go on to play Bristol Saracens in the final.

Drybrook Extras 15pts
Newent 2nds 17pts

Newent turned up with very young, well drilled side, who looked sharp from the off.

Drybrook were under a lot of early pressure, as they were caught off guard by the sharper, Newent outfit.
Newent were rewarded after 20 minutes with a converted try, and scored again after 22 min with the Extras were once again caught sleeping. The conversion was missed.

At 0-12 to Newent, Drybrook’s strong pack finally took a hold of the game putting the organised opposition defence under some serious goal- line pressure.

But Drybrook were not to be rewarded with a try but a red card on the half hour mark when prop forward Scott Phelps was dismissed. Unfortunately the referee only noticed Phelps’ retaliation and not the earlier unsavoury incident.

Afterwards Drybrook continued to press the Newent line but were not rewarded.

Newent 2nds 12pts

Drybrook made a couple of changes to compensate their loss of a player, which paid dividends as a good forwards move saw Ben Warren go over on 60 minutes, Ben Roberts added the extras.

Drybrook failed to keep control of the second half and Newent broke away to score once again. Drybrook added a late try on 75 mins through Greg Kieran but missed the resulting conversion.

With the score at 12-17 Drybrook looked good for a comeback, holding good possession and working up the field, but the ball was carelessly kicked away as the referee blew the final whistle.

John Baynham made a difference when bought on as did Greg Kiernan on the wing, Chris White defended exceptionally throughout.
