Up against London 1 outfit Colchester, Drybrook had an extremely tough work out in an intense and physical encounter against quality opposition.
Right from the offset Colchester announced their intentions by running from deep and Drybrook did well to close them down.
Five minutes in Drybrook had the chance to take the lead when they created an overlap but Sam Peaper ignored the man outside, got tackled, and the chance was lost.
After this Colchester gradually began to take control and had it not been for some outstanding defending by the home side they would have pulled clear.
Colchester did squander one chance when a try was disallowed for a forward pass but a score still seemed inevitable and when it did come there was an element of luck about it. When a move broke down in the right hand corner the visitor’s outside half put in a speculative kick to the opposite corner where a cruel bounce resulted in a try.
Drybrook were relieved to hear the half time whistle and were a little fortunate to be only one score behind.

Half Time: Drybrook nil Colchester 7pts

Drybrook made a few changes at the break and although Colchester still dominated the scrum

the home side began to see more of the ball.
Drybrook flanker Lee Ward was yellow carded after 10 minutes for killing the ball and then a big punch up resulted in the game being held up for a period for referee Chris Thomas to speak to both captains.
After this Drybrook began to get their rucking game going and finally managed to take the game to Colchester.
Winger Harry Gooderham nearly broke through and then from the resulting ruck second row powerhouse Jose Kabile crashed over under the posts.
Alun Richards converted and suddenly Drybrook were back in it and sniffing victory. They continued to batter away at the visitors who also proved to be strong in defence.
With a few minutes remaining Colchester broke out of their own half but Drybrook just managed to get back to clear the danger.
At the final whistle it was honours even and both sides would have benefitted from such an absorbing contest.
Back row man Mitch Bourne was man of the match for Drybrook.
