Extras reach Cup Final – Wednesday 23rd April 2014

Forest of Dean Minor Cup Semi-Final

BerryHill Wappers 5pts
Drybrook Extras 22pts

A hat-trick of tries from No 8 Dean Large, returning after a long injury lay off, inspired the Extras to victory at Lakers Road. They now go on to play the winners of Bream 2nds v Ross 2nds in the final at Westbury on Friday 2nd May.
The first half was a turgid affair with neither side able to gain the upper hand and a missed penalty by Drybrook’s Kieran Auker-Howlett was the closest either side came to scoring.
The only incident of any real note came after 30 minutes when a flare up resulted in Berryhill prop Macey and Drybrook centre Tony Hussey being red carded.

As soon as the second half got underway Drybrook played with more purpose and it was not long before Large grabbed his first try when he barged over following a maul.
Drybrook kept up the pressure and after going close several times Large forced his way over the line for try number two. Auker-Howlett converted but a period of stalemate then developed until 10 minutes from time when Large completed his hat trick following a scrum near the Hill line.
The Wappers hit back with a try of their own in the last five minutes but Drybrook had the last say when Auker-Howlett was put in at the corner following another powerful Drybrook scrummage.

For Drybrook second row Simon Ballinger made several storming runs through the middle and centre Matt Freeman looked sharp but no one was going to wrestle the man of the match award away from Large.
